About Me
Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Maria (Mia) and I am so
excited so share my thoughts and ideas with you! Currently, I am
studying at NKU to be a middle school math and science teacher. I hope
to graduate and have my own classroom by the Fall of 2020! I can't wait
to begin my journey in this profession!
There are so many reasons why I chose teaching as my career, but I will narrow it down to just a couple.
The first reason is that I just simply love learning. You can see the image header on my home page reads "passionately curious". This comes from a quote from Albert Einstein that I love, "I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious." I truly believe life has so much to offer and is such a great adventure, and so there is so much to learn about - whether that be through traveling, friendships or through education. As a teacher, I hope to inspire a similar love of learning in my students so that they can really appreciate the depth and complexity of the world around them, and discover how much it has to offer them - if they are only curious enough to explore it.
The second reason I chose teaching as my career relates back to the two subject areas I will teach - Math and Science. Throughout most of my primary and secondary education, I struggled SO much in these subjects, especially in Math, and I really and truly hated them. It wasn't until my sophomore year of high school when my Geometry teacher changed that for me. She finally made math "click" for me; and I went from hating math, to really loving it and loving the challenge it brings. I want to be that teacher for my students. I really want to help make subjects in which my students may be struggling finally "click" for them.
Now that I've told you a little bit about myself in regards to teaching, I will let you know a little bit more about the rest of my life. I come from a big, Catholic family and am the third oldest of my six other siblings, so you can imagine there's always a lot going on at home! I have two little nieces (and a third niece/nephew coming any day now!) I love watching the Bengals on Sundays during football season, as well as finding new local coffee shops around Cincinnati to try! Another thing I have absolutely fallen in love with in life is traveling. Currently, I have been blessed to have been able to travel nine different countries. I love experiencing the different cultures and not only just doing the tourist-y things, but also just learning how different people live their life. I love seeing what is "normal" for other people. It is so interesting! (Cue "passionately curious" quote...)
This blog will mainly consist of all things education-related - my thoughts, ideas, and activities. I hope you find it helpful! Enjoy!
